Solar Powered Fountain
Solar powered fountains come in a variety of designs and are made from different
materials.
One of the most popular ranges is made from copper. They look terrific when first
installed, and after a few years they develop a coating called a patina, which changes
the colour gradually to a richer tone. This is caused by the interaction of the
air and water which is perfectly natural and causes oxidisation. The one shown here
is a solar powered bird bath.
Using solar powered fountains is not only great for the environment, but great for
your pocket, because they cost nothing to run. The electrical power is generated
from the sun which shines on a solar collector which changes the sun’s energy into
electrical power. Clean and free!
They require very little maintenance. Apart from wiping the solar collectors to
keep them cleat of dust and grime and opening up the pump to clean out and build
up of rubbish, there is really nothing else to do.
The rechargeable batteries will last up to 25 years. Solar powered fountains require
no mains wiring or transformers. For this reason they can be sited even in remote
locations. They are fully independent of conventional electrical power.
