Solar water heating backup water heater

A backup water heater in needed to ensure that there will always be a supply of hot water.

This means if the sun has not heated the water to the desired temperature, the heater will take over and do the job.

If on a hot day the sun heats up the water, the backup heater will use no power at all. But when the outside temperature drops, it will power up to cover the shortfall.

The heater can be powered by any means, electricity, natural gas, propane or wood.

Usually, back up water heaters use a tank, but it is possible to use tankless water heaters. These are the best combinations and are more efficient than using a tank.

Normally you can expect to save up to 60% of your water heating bills using solar water heating, and a further 15% by using as tankless system.

This means if you are spending $400 a year now, you could cut that to $100.
